We are looking for an experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to join our growing and collaborative Compliance team in Luxembourg.
As the appointed MLRO for our CSSF-regulated electronic money institution, you will lead the Luxembourg financial crime framework and work closely with Authorised Management, the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and other control functions to ensure robust compliance with AML/CFT, sanctions and regulatory requirements. This is a high-impact role within a fast-paced fintech environment where no two days are the same. You will oversee suspicious activity reporting, sanctions risk, regulatory engagement and the continuous enhancement of our financial crime framework while partnering with stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as the appointed MLRO for Luxembourg and oversee the local AML/CFT and financial crime framework.
- Lead the review, escalation and reporting of suspicious activity, including the preparation and submission of STRs/SARs to the Luxembourg Financial Intelligence Unit (CRF).
- Ensure compliance with Luxembourg AML/CFT legislation, including the Law of 12 November 2004, Grand-ducal Regulation of 1 February 2010, CSSF Regulation 12-02, applicable CSSF circulars and the Law of 10 November 2009 on payment services.
- Provide expert guidance on AML/CFT, sanctions and financial crime matters to Authorised Management, the CCO and business stakeholders.
- Monitor regulatory and legal developments in Luxembourg, the EU and relevant international sanctions regimes, assessing their impact on the business.
- Lead or contribute to AML/CFT risk assessments, remediation initiatives and financial crime projects.
- Review and challenge KYC/KYB, Enhanced Due Diligence and onboarding practices, particularly for higher-risk corporate and institutional clients.
- Support sanctions risk assessments, escalations and restrictive measures compliance, including EU, UN, UK and US sanctions where relevant.
- Deliver AML/CFT and sanctions training to first- and second-line teams through formal training sessions, workshops and ongoing guidance.
- Act as the primary point of contact with the CSSF, CRF and other competent authorities for financial crime matters, where authorised.
- Produce clear, audit-ready documentation and maintain robust governance over financial crime investigations and decision-making.
- Take ownership of ad hoc regulatory, remediation and financial crime initiatives as required.
Profil recherché
- 5+ years of relevant experience in AML/CFT, Financial Crime, Sanctions or Compliance within banking, fintech, payment services or electronic money institutions.
- Strong knowledge of Luxembourg AML/CFT requirements and CSSF regulatory expectations for payment institutions and electronic money institutions.
- Practical experience managing suspicious activity investigations, STR/SAR reporting, CRF interactions and customer exit decisions.
- Excellent understanding of KYC/KYB, Enhanced Due Diligence, transaction monitoring and corporate client risk.
- Strong knowledge of EU and Luxembourg sanctions, with exposure to UK and/or US sanctions considered an advantage.
- Experience working with corporate, SME and institutional clients, ideally within payment flows, correspondent banking, trade finance or merchant banking.
- Proven ability to analyse complex financial crime risks, challenge existing practices and make sound risk-based decisions.
- Experience dealing with regulatory requests, audits and remediation programmes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage senior management and regulators.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High ethical standards, integrity and absolute discretion when handling confidential matters.
- Fluent English is essential. French is a strong advantage; Luxembourgish, German or other European languages are beneficial.
